There are two things I have made a commitment to never say in front of my child...
1. I am fat, I need to lose some weight.
2. I am fat, I need to workout more.
Please join me and just don't do it. Our youth is not born with self-hate, they learn it from us, the media, and society.
You may not be in the best shape of your life and you may want to make changes, but you can show your kiddos how to make those changes because they love their bodies- not because the hate them!
Struggling myself with body image as a child and now raising a daughter has opened my eyes to this. I'm very aware that my actions & behaviors are what she will watch & imitate. Instead of talking about how I look, we talk a lot about staying active because it makes our bodies feel good and eating nutritious foods because they keep us healthy.
Our words can have a huge impact on small ears. Let their relationship with their bodies be one of love.
